Steve Bruce to take over West Brom after Valerien Ismael's sack

Steve Bruce is an early contender to take over at West Brom after the sacking of Valerien Ismael.

Fifth in the Championship and with three wins from 14 games, the former Barnsley boss has been dismissed seven months into his four-year contract.

The panicking Baggies’ board, desperate to return to the Premier League at the first attempt, will spend the next few days looking at an experienced replacement.

And they could turn to Bruce who was sacked by Newcastle in October.

Dani Alves AXED from Barcelona

Dani Alves has been AXED from Barcelona's Europa League squad due to strict competition rules.

And Alves will have to settle for domestic minutes moving forward as he has been left out of the Europa League squad, following Barcelona's announcement.

That is because Barcelona are only allowed to register three new players, which are Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The trio all arrived in the recent transfer window and have been preferred by Xavi over Alves.

Adama Traore took a pay cut in order to secure his Barcelona return, it has been confirmed.

The 26-year-old Spaniard completed a loan move to the Catalan giants from Wolves, with an option to buy of £25million included within the deal.

And Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now revealed Traore made sacrifices when it came to his salary because he wanted to play for the club again.

Speaking about securing the former Wolves man, Laporta said: “We’ve an option to buy clause included into Adama Traore deal with Wolves and our plan is to trigger that clause.

"It’s on him - he made a great effort [on salary] to play here at Barça.”

Barcelona will pay 100 per cent of Traore's wages.

Wolves winger Adama Traore has completed a loan move to boyhood club Barcelona.

The Spaniards pounced for their former La Masia graduate as he held transfer talks with Tottenham.

Traore was unable to resist the lure of a return to the Nou Camp.

And Barcelona have the option to make his deal permanent for £25million in the summer.

'No top quality players' in Tottenham

Roy Keane has delivered a typically honest verdict of Tottenham, suggesting ‘no top quality players’ would want to join the club.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, making it three defeats in as many weeks for Antonio Conte against his former employers.

The need for reinforcements is clear, with Spurs strongly linked with a double swoop for Adama Traore and Diego Carlos.

But Keane remains unconvinced by Tottenham’s ability to attract ‘top’ players to the club.

While on punditry duty for Sky Sports, Keane said: “The difficulty is, what top players are going to go to Spurs?

“Particularly in January, or in the summer if they don’t get in the Champions League.

“The manager might be an attraction, but he’ll be into the last year of his contract, that’s if he’s still there.

“So there’s a big dilemma, but again which players, even if he gets a few funds to spend in January, there’s no top quality players available in January that would want to go to Tottenham.”
