Van De Beek wanted at Selhurst Park choosed Merseyside instead

Frank Lampard is said to have ‘personally phoned’ loan signing Donny van de Beek to convince him to choose Everton over Crystal Palace as his Old Trafford escape route.

Lamps has just taken over in the Goodison Park hotseat and will start his tenure with Man United’s out-of-favour midfielder in his squad for the rest of the season.

Van De Beek was wanted at Selhurst Park before deciding to make the switch to Merseyside instead.

And reports in the player’s native Netherlands suggest Lampard’s personal involvement in the deal is what clinched it for him.

The new Toffees boss is said to have called Van De Beek directly to tell him of his plans, which were enough to convince him to make the move down the M62.

United asked wantaway Pogba to delay decision on future

Man United have reportedly asked wantaway stars such as Paul Pogba to delay the decision on their future until the club pick a permanent manager.

Pogba's deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in June and he is free to negotiate terms with foreign clubs.

Should the Frenchman walk away from Old Trafford for free, it will be for the second time in his United career.

But according to ESPN, the Red Devils are hoping that their next managerial appointment can help convince big stars like Pogba to stay and renew their contract.

Current boss Ralf Rangnick is in temporary charge until the end of the season, when United hope to bring in someone of the calibre of Mauricio Pochettino to replace him.

Weekend News Recap

Friday night’s Premier League clash between Watford and Norwich was plunged into chaos when the floodlights failed.

The floodlights in each corner of Vicarage Road began to dim and referee Mike Dean deemed it was unsafe to continue – even though visibility was not interrupted.

The delay lasted ten minutes before Dean consulted the two managers and captains and asked if they were happy to continue, which they were.

The game also produced one of the goals of the season when Norwich ace Josh Sargent flicked the ball with his heel goalwards and magically hit the net - before doubling the Canaries’ lead after the floodlight chaos.

Meanwhile, Chelsea pair Ben Chilwell and Reece James shared a photo together of their rehabilitation.

The Blues full-backs were all smiles in the gym as they worked on getting back to full fitness.

The English duo’s Blues team-mate Antonio Rudiger could end up staying at Stamford Bridge - if the club manage to stump up £220,000-a-week to meet the defender's demands.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s side will have to move swiftly as the German’s contract is up in the summer and Man United are hot on his heels.

United’s rivals Man City look set to beat them in the transfer race for River Plate’s Argentina international forward Julian Alvarez.

Reports in South America suggest a deal is close between City and the striker who was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford.
