Everton confirmed the appointment of Ashley Cole

Everton have confirmed the appointment of Ashley Cole as first-team coach as new boss Frank Lampard raids old club Chelsea for his former team-mate.

Cole, 41, was working with the Chelsea academy, and is also Lee Carsley's assistant with the England U21s.

It is not known if he will continue his role with the national team.

Cole told the club website: “I was thrilled when Frank asked me to join him at Everton.

"This is a brilliant opportunity with a fantastic club and I am coming here to work hard and try to help bring success to Everton.

“The chance to link up again with Frank was another huge draw. He is an excellent manager and leader.

"With the rest of the staff here, we have everything in place for what we want to achieve together."

Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli arrived with a 'hunger'

New Everton boss Frank Lampard has revealed Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli have arrived with a 'hunger' to success, after struggling at their previous clubs.

Lampard revealed: "In terms of our business with Donny and Dele, they’re separate cases.

"I just look at the player and the person and I had conversations with them both. They’re both very, very talented players.

"I’ve come up against them in the past and was very impressed with them. Sometimes it’s good to get players in who have a point to prove.

"They come in with hunger. I trust in their talent and I trust them as people.

"My job now is to create an environment to support them to let them show the talent they have.

"It’s natural talent they have and we have to harness it. It’s my job to put it all together."

Van De Beek wanted at Selhurst Park choosed Merseyside instead

Frank Lampard is said to have ‘personally phoned’ loan signing Donny van de Beek to convince him to choose Everton over Crystal Palace as his Old Trafford escape route.

Lamps has just taken over in the Goodison Park hotseat and will start his tenure with Man United’s out-of-favour midfielder in his squad for the rest of the season.

Van De Beek was wanted at Selhurst Park before deciding to make the switch to Merseyside instead.

And reports in the player’s native Netherlands suggest Lampard’s personal involvement in the deal is what clinched it for him.

The new Toffees boss is said to have called Van De Beek directly to tell him of his plans, which were enough to convince him to make the move down the M62.

Lampard reckons Loftus-Cheek can save the Toffees

Everton are reportedly hoping to bring in Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek to ease their midfield injury crisis.

But Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is far from keen on the idea.

Incoming Goodison chief Frank Lampard reckons Loftus-Cheek can save the Toffees from the drop.

However, it will be hard for Everton to convince Tuchel to part ways, with the German a huge fan of Loftus-Cheek.

Pereira on shortlist to replace Rafa Benitez

Vitor Pereira is the latest boss to be interviewed for the Everton vacancy.

The Portuguese is a free agent after being sacked by Turkish side Fenerbahce last month.

Pereira is on a shortlist to replace axed Rafa Benitez that also includes Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and caretaker Duncan Ferguson, although Everton are considering a wide range of candidates.

Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat by Aston Villa has heightened fears they will be dragged into a relegation scrap.

But keeper Jordan Pickford is confident the Toffees, who have not been relegated since 1951, will survive.

He said: "The fight, intensity, tempo was there. We showed that graft.

"We showed character and desire. It was just that finishing touch but that will come.

"It's about working hard on the training pitch, and then going out there and expressing yourself with determination and we'll get those results."
