Van De Beek wanted at Selhurst Park choosed Merseyside instead

Frank Lampard is said to have ‘personally phoned’ loan signing Donny van de Beek to convince him to choose Everton over Crystal Palace as his Old Trafford escape route.

Lamps has just taken over in the Goodison Park hotseat and will start his tenure with Man United’s out-of-favour midfielder in his squad for the rest of the season.

Van De Beek was wanted at Selhurst Park before deciding to make the switch to Merseyside instead.

And reports in the player’s native Netherlands suggest Lampard’s personal involvement in the deal is what clinched it for him.

The new Toffees boss is said to have called Van De Beek directly to tell him of his plans, which were enough to convince him to make the move down the M62.

Thomas Muller given Newcastle and Everton hope

Thomas Muller has given Newcastle and Everton hope after he revealed Bayern Munich have not spoken to him about a new contract.

The 32-year-old has a contract at his boyhood club until the summer of 2023.

And although Bayern are in talks over extending Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski's stay in Munich past next year, Muller surprisingly hasn't been approached.

He revealed to Bild: "No one has ever approached me from the club. So you have to see what the future will bring."

In the event Muller does leave Bayern he wouldn't be short of suitors, with the likes of mega-rich Newcastle and Everton taking interest in his situation.

Lampard reckons Loftus-Cheek can save the Toffees

Everton are reportedly hoping to bring in Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek to ease their midfield injury crisis.

But Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is far from keen on the idea.

Incoming Goodison chief Frank Lampard reckons Loftus-Cheek can save the Toffees from the drop.

However, it will be hard for Everton to convince Tuchel to part ways, with the German a huge fan of Loftus-Cheek.

Growing crowd trouble could wreck the special atmosphere at English grounds - Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel fears growing crowd trouble could wreck the special atmosphere at English grounds.

Chelsea’s boss spoke out after Antonio Rudiger was hit by a bottle opener and a lighter hurled from the section of Stamford Bridge housing Tottenham’s fans.

Blues defender Rudiger made it known to referee Paul Tierney but is not taking the matter further.

This incident comes at the end of a weekend in which disorder has resurfaced at Premier League grounds.

Objects were hurled by Everton fans in their defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday and there were pitch invasions at Southampton during their draw with Manchester City that evening.

Tuchel said: “If it’s a new trend we should act together to stop it as soon as possible to protect the environment of this game and the atmosphere that’s absolutely unique in England.

“I love to have the fans close to the pitch.

“Not behind fences and not behind nets. It’s a brilliant atmosphere.

Pereira on shortlist to replace Rafa Benitez

Vitor Pereira is the latest boss to be interviewed for the Everton vacancy.

The Portuguese is a free agent after being sacked by Turkish side Fenerbahce last month.

Pereira is on a shortlist to replace axed Rafa Benitez that also includes Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and caretaker Duncan Ferguson, although Everton are considering a wide range of candidates.

Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat by Aston Villa has heightened fears they will be dragged into a relegation scrap.

But keeper Jordan Pickford is confident the Toffees, who have not been relegated since 1951, will survive.

He said: "The fight, intensity, tempo was there. We showed that graft.

"We showed character and desire. It was just that finishing touch but that will come.

"It's about working hard on the training pitch, and then going out there and expressing yourself with determination and we'll get those results."

Gerrard hailed match winner Emi Buendia

Steven Gerrard hailed match winner Emi Buendia as he continues to steer Aston Villa on track to recovery.

Gerrard has now won five of his 10 league matches since arriving in November and has a clear plan working in a settled structure and improving his players.

Buendia and revived midfielder John McGinn are just two such examples as they both impressed against Everton.

Gerrard said: "Emi's been getting stronger and better in terms of his individual performances over the last few weeks.

"Many outside would have thought his position would be under threat with (Philippe) Coutinho's arrival but he has helped Phil settle in and I am proud of both of them.

"The thing with Emi is people see him as a little, technical footballer, which is good but he will compete, he will go to ground for you and be big in the air.

"'Ginny' was fighting for everything. We missed him against United (last weekend's 2-2 draw), so to have him (back) showed how important he is for Villa."

Buendia rated the win over Everton was a "massive" three points as the club picked up their first win in 2022.

He added: "It's an incredible result for us, massive three points. We came into a really difficult game because they are a strong team, just in a difficult situation.

"They changed their manager this week so we knew before the game it would be tough and I think we battled very, very well over the 90 minutes."

Everton divided over Wayne Rooney return to Goodison Park

Everton chiefs are divided over offering star Wayne Rooney an emotional return to Goodison Park.

Chairman Bill Kenwright would love to bring the former Toffees hero back to the club as boss.

But owner Farhad Moshiri is understood to be wary over his lack of experience.

Rooney, 36, is lined up to replace axed Rafa Benitez.

However, Moshiri has yet to be convinced that Rooney has the credentials after just over a year in charge of crisis club Derby.

He is battling to keep the Rams up after they were deducted 21 points and placed into administration.

But the former striker has not distanced himself from the Everton vacancy.
