Why Jesse Lingard wasn't allowed to leave

Ahead of tomorrow night's FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough, Ragnick confirmed he was originally allowed to leave, but 'developments' due to the Mason Greenwood situation changed that.
Rangnick also revealed Lingard will not be part of the squad tomorrow after asking for some time off 'to clear his head'.
The German said: "Three weeks ago Jesse didn't want to leave and then he changed his mind.
"I said at the time, if he finds a club and a solution that suits us, we would allow him to leave. With the developments in the last couple of days, things changed.
"On Monday afternoon, the board said they wanted him to stay. We are without a player who has played regularly and also we couldn't get an agreement for any other club."

Tanguy Ndombele 'didn't hesitate' to Lyon offer

"I've known five coaches in two and a half years. It's not their fault but I had a little trouble at Tottenham. I wanted something else. Lyon, as I know, is better for adaptation."
Ndombele was also linked with a move to Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain, and when asked about PSG's interest, he said: "Discussions with a lot of clubs but a gap between words and action.
"I have three and a half months before the end of the season and Lyon is not bad for me. I left through the front door and it's a risk to come back. I took that risk.
"I think I'm a better player than when I left. I learned in England even though it didn't go well. I'm better physically and mentally."
